Greek development conferences strike back!

The Stone Age

How many of you have ever been in a software development conference in Greece? Let me guess: very few! Have you ever wondered why you haven’t attended any conference in Greece? The answer is simple : “Because there are no such conferences”. To be more accurate there is only one well-known un-conference : JCrete , with a limited number of attendees, no public registration etc.  The new born #AgileCrete un-conference did also the first baby steps last year!

That’s the ugly truth! Only two un-conferences both in Crete. Don’t we have developers in other cities?

The new ERA

To be honest that WAS the ugly truth until the holy year of 2015! Now you have many choices and several good reasons to visit Greece and combine vacations with awesome conferences. Let me briefly present what I’m talking about

I’m really proud to be one of the organizers of the first community-driven web development conference in Greece.
DEVit conference will open its doors this May in a fantastic venue : Thessaloniki’s Concert Hall. 12 world-class speakers like Christian Heilmann, Mathias Bynens , Jeff Nickoloff and our  “Greek” Dr. Heinz Kabutz, will share their expertise and knowledge about frontend and backend development, devops, security and testing! You will have the chance to meet the experts in their fields, book authors and java champions at the lovely city of Thessaloniki, in the heart of Northern Greece and be part of such a great event! You can combine also your visit with vacations in one of the Chalkidiki peninsula, which is no more than one hour drive! We are so excited for DEVit and we can’t hide it!

If you are a strictly java guy, then you can still visit JCrete. This year the attendees are even more and from what I know there are very few free slots. All you have to do is contact the organizers. If you are among the lucky attendees you will have the chance to meet many Java champions and discuss the latest trends in Java / JVM technologies. You will also explore many lovely places during the un-conference and why not take a hands-on experience with a beer inside a pool 🙂 I would love to attend it some day. To be honest I had plans to visit JCrete this year but some personal issues made me cancel my participation.

One week before JCrete#AgileCrete will take place at the capital of Crete, Heraklion. It’s an Open Space un-conference that connects agile professionals from all over the world. It’s the playground where coaches and development team members gather. You decide what topics you want to talk about, and work on, with whom – instead of hoping a “speaker” will spend a few minutes addressing that topic. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy relaxing holidays alongside with a great event! It’s in my wish list for next summer 🙂

Agile Greece Summit

Last but not least, if you prefer to avoid the hot season, I have good news for you. The first Agile conference in Greece is a reality: Agile Greece Summit is doing its first baby steps, inviting some really cool agile leaders and coaches : Ben Linders, Niels Pflaeging and Kristian Lindwall just to mention a few. The event will take place this September at President Hotel Athens which is located in the center of the Greek capital . One day before we will be able to attend two of the most well-known workshops : Management Workout 3.0 and Valuable Agile Retrospectives.

I’m looking forward to see the success of all these events and I’m confident that this is just the beginning 🙂

P.S. Expect me to write reports after every event.
